The artwork depicts 3 demonstration suicide vests created for education and training purposes and have been reproduced from actual examples of notable suicide attacks. I have been inspired to make public these items so that viewers could build empathic bridges between the maker caste of the warzone and our bricoleur cultural experiments with peacetime technology. The objects photographed are exemplar of our species’ paradoxical capacity for creative destruction. The artwork operates, as do many of my works, in the territory of uncanny –inducing fascination, pity and revulsion. This is a work of mourning for the desperate and disenfranchised. I created these works with the support of the Canadian Forces Peace Support Training Centre.
